King Rama I establishes Bangkok as the capital of the Rattanakosin Kingdom on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River.

1950

Ratchadamri Road in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district develops as a prestige commercial and diplomatic corridor adjacent to the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.

1978

The Peninsula Hotel Bangkok opens on Ratchadamri Road with hand-painted silk ceilings and bespoke Jim Thompson silk furnishings throughout its public spaces.

1995

The Regent Hotel Group takes over operations, continuing the property's reputation as one of Bangkok's leading luxury addresses.

Four Seasons Hotels assumes management, maintaining the Thai classical interiors and expanding the restaurant and spa offerings.
