About the Property

The first hotel built on Penang's Batu Ferringhi beach, Lone Pine opened in 1948 as a seaside retreat for colonial administrators and plantation owners seeking respite from the heat. Named after a solitary casuarina pine that once stood on its beachfront, the hotel has been a Penang landmark for over 75 years. A 2010 renovation by the Loh family respected the original low-rise colonial proportions while adding contemporary comforts, preserving its character as the antithesis of the high-rise resorts that later crowded the beach.
