History Timeline

1920

Traditional Lao merchant residence constructed on the main road of Luang Prabang's commercial quarter, built with characteristic French-Lao hybrid elements: timber shutters, tiled floors, and a shaded gallery.

1954

France withdraws from Indochina following the Dien Bien Phu defeat; Luang Prabang enters a brief period of independent royal Lao governance under King Savang Vatthana.

1975

The Pathet Lao dissolves the Royal Lao Government; the merchant house passes to the state and is used as a government storage facility through the isolation years.

1995

UNESCO World Heritage inscription of Luang Prabang triggers a property conservation movement; the merchant house is identified as a candidate for sympathetic restoration.

2005

Meticulous restoration completed; Nagas opens as an intimate boutique hotel within the heritage zone, reinstating original timber floors, lacquerwork panels, and courtyard garden.
